Council lends it support to Pitlochry's Christmas festivities

Did you know that Perth & Kinross Council can offer a proportion of funding to events which will benefit the local area? One community group who successfully applied and received funding from the Council's Events Budget are the organisers of Pitlochry's Christmas Festival. The group are planning to spend their funding on the costs associated with the licence they require to hold a Christmas Market as part of the town's Christmas Festival on 1 December.

Tina Simpson from Pitlochry Christmas Festival Group said: "I received a call from Council's Events Team offering to assist me in completing all the necessary paperwork correctly and generously offering to cover some of the costs involved in holding our Christmas Market.

"I am delighted to say that our festivities in Pitlochry this year are firmly on track. I am also grateful for a number of local individuals and organisations who have contacted me offering assistance. I was pleased to be able to let them know the Council had saved the day."

Bring tourism to Perth and Kinross

Convener of Perth & Kinross Council's Environment & Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Angus Forbes said: "I am delighted that the Council could offer some assistance to the Pitlochry group. The local authority is particularly focused on supporting events which have the potential to bring tourism to Perth and Kinross such as Pitlochry's Christmas Festival and Market.

"Funding applications are assessed against a range of criteria including whether the event offers:  A direct economic return on investment through tourism, business opportunities or other means; Commercial and showcasing opportunities for Perth and Kinross businesses or the culture, sport and/or the natural environment of the local area."

Significant criteria

Organisers have to demonstrate that their event meets all or a significant amount of the criteria listed on the Council's website at http://www.pkc.gov.uk/article/15509/Events-funding to qualify for an award. Applicants must also evidence their other sources of income and funding as well as having a business or marketing plan in place for the event. The Council can also assist with the staging and marketing of events if required.

Event organisers wishing to apply for funding must contact the Council to obtain an up-to-date application form and discuss the event and its requirements prior to submission by e-mailing pkcevents@pkc.gov.uk
