New in the AK Bell Library
Ancestry.co.ukand Ancestry.com websites are freely available to users of the People's Network Computers in the Perth & Kinross Libraries. Ancestry.co.uk holds indexes for all the Scottish census information from 1841 to 1901 while Ancestry.com covers countries outside the UK. Both can be used for free when you book a computer in any of our libraries. Look at '
How to book a computer' under Related Articles on the right hand side of this page.
The Local Studies section welcomes you to a wide range of information about the area. Here you can look at
maps,
photographs,
newspapers and specialist journals as well as using books and pamphlets of all dates and sizes to answer your enquiries on a particular parish, village or even building.
If
Family History is your passion, you can find the census and old parish registers for Perthshire and Kinross-shire on microfilm. The newspaper index may help you track down birth and death dates and the helpful staff will try to point you in the right direction if you get stuck.
If you are unable to come to the library yourself you can
contact us and ask us to do the research for you, though we do have to charge for this service.
Volunteers are always welcome. If you have time to spare and an interest in the local area please talk to a member of staff who will try to match you with a suitable project.
