Perth launch event for Learning Disability Week 2019
Learning Disability Week will be launched in Perth and Kinross this year with a celebratory event at Bell's Sports Centre, Perth on Monday 13th May between 10:00-12:00 Noon.
Learning Disability Week is a week that celebrates the lives and talents of people with learning disabilities in Scotland.
The theme this year is centred on Active Communities.
The theme focuses on 'community', highlighting the fact we are all part of a community living in Scotland. Communities are best when everyone is active in their community, connected to people within their community and feels included in their community.
People with learning disabilities can sometimes experience barriers to being included; local venues, activities and services are not always accessible, and people are not always made to feel welcome within their communities.
A series of events will take place throughout the week and throughout Perth and Kinross.
Perth and Kinross Health & Social Partnership Chief Officer, Gordon Paterson, said: "Learning Disability Week is an important annual event which enables people living with learning disabilities to continue being active, connected and included citizens.
"The Launch Event taking place in Perth will provide a great opportunity for anyone living with a learning disability in Perth & Kinross to get vital information from support services."
