Independent Travel Trainers (ITT)
Our accredited Independent Travel Trainers can support people to access employment, day opportunities and community facilities.

We provide awareness and practical sessions on:
- Road safety
- Independent travel
- Safe routes
- Route planning
- Monitoring and review
Support for individuals accessing independent travel training
- Our team's remit is to give appropriate support at a level and pace appropriate to the individual
- The people we support will already have a variety of skills and experience relating to travel; we aim to enhance these skills and to support individuals reach their potential
- In the first instance we will meet with the individual/carer/parent to discuss what the independent travel goals are
- We provide one to one support and assist individuals to travel to day opportunities, community civilities or work
- We support people to access and establish safe routes and help develop and improve individual's road safety skills
- We work alongside people a one to one basis until such times as they are assessed as being able to undertake a journey independently
- Only then will we reduce our support but we will continue to monitor as necessary
Road Safety
- We will support individuals with their road safety skills and assess this throughout
- Road safety tools e.g. "road safety step by step" and "A2B safely" will be used to help promote independent travel
- Continual assessment and progress will be recorded using independent travel competency matrix
This consists of four units
- Awareness for pedestrians
- Safe travel
- Travel independently
- Trains (if required)
