Agency Brief | New Opportunities offers a range of programmes for young people who may not know what they want to study when they leave school, or may need a little more support to be able to follow their chosen career path. Our aim is to ensure learning is accessible and rewarding as possible for all those who wish to participate at all stages in their lives. |
Target Client Group | Young People who have faced challenges in school and may have been out of school completely. Non-attenders, Fragile learners, and those with Social, Emotional and Behavioural issues |
Programmes Offered | Moving On is designed to provide learning and progression opportunities for young people who are undergoing challenging transitions. The programme aims at developing personal, social and practical skills and the wider confidence to experience wider horizons in the world of work, Further Education or Training. |
Eligibility | There are no formal entry requirements; however applicants must be willing to work in a group. Usually, applicants will be assessed during a Transition course as to their suitability for the programme |
Referral | Referrals are normally 6 months in advance of the course commencing through schools, other agencies or through self-referral working with the college transitions officer. Applicants are invited to attend a link programme prior to being accepted on to the course. |
Outcome | Students work towards John Muir and Duke of Edinburgh Awards, as well as Asdan. |

Stages Covered
Stage 1 Referral/Engagement Activity - Examples of this is early engagement activity, identification of client need and development of an action plan.
Stage 2 Barrier Removal - Examples of this is barrier removal activities and confidence building, support to develop core skills such as numeracy and literacy, holistic activities linked to individual needs and employability skills.
