Householders urged to recycle their used batteries

Householders in Perth and Kinross are being urged to recycle their batteries rather than dispose of them in their green bins.

The reminder has been issued following two recent cases in England where portable batteries have caused fire in waste and recycling collection vehicles. Safe disposal of batteries is, therefore, not only encouraged to protect the refuse collectors and members of the public, but also to allow the valuable resources to be recovered and made in to new products.

Portable batteries can be recycled at all 9 Recycling Centres across Perth and Kinross, as well as many local shops and supermarkets. Any retailer which sells batteries, must by law, accept old batteries back for recycling.
