Comrie flood protection scheme - Outline design

In August 2017 consulting engineers, Sweco, were appointed to develop the Council's preferred flood scheme. This work will involve developing the proposed outline design in sufficient detail to allow the scheme to be published under the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act. Sweco's commission also includes the subsequent detailed design work and supervision of the construction phase.

Sweco are currently developing the outline design of the flood scheme. This is based upon detailed ground investigation works and environmental, topographic and structural surveys which have been carried out around the town. Overall this work is taking longer than anticipated - however we currently have no overall change in the estimated timeline for the delivery of the Scheme.

Sweco have now produced a draft outline design for the proposed flood defences within the town. We are now ready to consult with the community on the latest proposals.

Public exhibition - 30 April and 8 May 2019

A public exhibition is being held in the Comrie Community Centre (the White Church) between 2pm and 8pm on Tuesday 30 April 2019 and Wednesday 8 May 2019.

The exhibition is in the form of community drop-in sessions and will provide the community with information on the current outline design of the flood scheme including the proposed flood defence types, alignments, heights and indicative finishes. A display will be set up at the venue and officers from the Council's flooding team and Sweco will be present to answer any questions. Comment forms will be made available to allow residents to record their views and highlight any issues of interest or concern.

The Council and Sweco are keen to consult with the community on:

  • The risk of flooding in Comrie;
  • The Council's proposals for a flood scheme; and
  • Other action to raise awareness of flood risk and improve flood resilience.

Next steps

The community's response will inform the final outline design of the flood scheme. Following the community drop-in sessions, the Council will therefore collate any questions and feedback provided and will provide a response in the form of a community consultation report. This report will be published and made available to the community. Where possible, the proposed scheme will be amended to address any local concerns.

We will issue a further newsletter once the community consultation report is available.

The Council will then seek to publish the final proposals under the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009 during the summer of 2019.
