1140 hours - Extra funded early years hours from August 2020
The Scottish Government has announced that by 2020 all 3 and 4-year-olds, and some eligible 2-year-olds will be entitled to 1140 hours of funded childcare.
Currently all 3 and 4 year olds in Scotland and some eligible 2 year olds are entitled to 600 hours of funded (free) access to Early Learning and Childcare (ELC), nursery provision.
This is a significant increase from the current entitlement of 600 hours.
The expansion is intended to support child development and close the attainment gap through the provision of high quality services, and also to support parents to return to work, train or study.
How will I be able to access 1140 hours?
An important part of how we increase funded early years and childcare hours is making sure that there are a range choices in an effort to best suit parents. Parents will have a range of needs which will shape their preferences for how the 1140 hours might be provided. Because of this, the Council is working closely with partner provider nurseries and with local childminders to try to ensure parents can access funded hours in the way which best meets their family's needs.
To make sure there are choices across the area we've grouped Perth and Kinross into 11 early learning and childcare communities. Each of these communities will have access to a mixture of attendance options at local authority and partner provider nurseries and childminders.
