600 hours of funded early learning and childcare for 3-5 year olds
All 3-5 year olds, and eligible 2 year olds, across Scotland are entitled to 600 hours per year of funded (free) early learning and childcare.
You are entitled to apply to any local authority managed nursery and / or partner provider centre for your 3-5 year old child's funded early learning and childcare place.

*Please note that children born on or between 1 September 2016 and 31 October 2016 may access a local authority place week beginning 21 October 2019 provided staffing resources are available.
Registering for a nursery place
Children who are eligible to start nursery in August 2019 can apply for a nursery place at local authority nurseries from 21 January 2019 and initially will close on 15 February 2019. A notice will be placed in the local press detailing the relevant dates for nursery registration, week commencing 7 January 2019. However, you can apply for a nursery place throughout the school year.

Parents / carers whose will be 5 years of age between the start of the school session in August and the last day of December 2019 and who are looking to defer [286Kb] their child, must complete an application form, please see your child's nursery for further information.
Children who will be 5 years of age between 1 January and 28 February 2020 whose parents have decided to defer entry [286Kb] to primary school are eligible to register for a place at nursery schools and classes managed by or in partnership with Education & Children's Services.
Evidence to provide at registration
- Birth certificate
- Proof of your residency at the time of application - this must be a copy of Council Tax documentation
Please note: A place in a local authority nursery class does not give priority in gaining a place in the same school when enrolling for a primary school place.
