Policy and guidelines for early learning and childcare admissions updated
A report to the next Lifelong Learning Committee on Wednesday 6 November 2019 will present for Councillors' approval an updated admissions policy and guidelines for early learning and childcare (ELC) settings from 2020/21, in line with the Scottish Government's expansion of funded ELC provision from 600 to 1140 hours which comes into effect from August 2020.
Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Caroline Shiers said: "From next August, all three to five year old and eligible two year old children and their families in Perth and Kinross will be able to benefit from a significant increase in the available hours of high quality, affordable and accessible early learning and childcare.
To enable the Council to deliver effectively on this expansion, detailed consideration has been given to where our policy and procedures requires to be updated and amended. The report before the Committee reflects that review and aims to make applying for an ELC place as user-friendly as possible for parents and staff in ELC settings; and the changes will assist families with planning for work, training or study."
Applications for ELC places can now be made through a centralised online system, in an effort to make the process from applying to children being allocated places more efficient and effective for both parents and staff.
1140 hours in Perth and Kinross will be delivered through a blend of funded providers, including Council nurseries, private and third sector partners, and childminders, with a range of attendance patterns available to support parents' particular ELC needs for their family.
