Brexit advice for EU citizens

EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS)

We encouraged all EU citizens and their family members living in the Perth and Kinross area by 31 December 2020 to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to protect their rights and to continue to live, work and study in our area after 30 June 2021.  This scheme has now closed although in exceptional circumstances late applications can still be made.

More than 9,900 applications were made within the Perth and Kinross area with 9,470 applications being concluded at that date.

The UK Government website provides further details and tips about how EU citizens and their families submit late applications.

Applications made after the 30 June 2021 deadline

In line with the Citizens' Rights Agreements, there remains scope for a person eligible for status under the EUSS to make a late application to the scheme where there are reasonable grounds for having missed the deadline.

Non-exhaustive guidance on reasonable grounds for missing the deadline is available on GOV.UK. The Home Office will continue to look to grant status, rather than for reasons to refuse.

An application must be made for every eligible child within a family. Parents should check if they need to apply on behalf of their children, even if they have already applied and been granted a status themselves.

To provide further reassurance to late applicants the government will protect their rights until their application and any appeal is decided. More information can be found on GOV.UK.
