Win £1000 to help tackle climate change

Perth & Kinross Council wants your views to help inform our plans to tackle climate change - and you could win a prize for sharing your opinions. As part of the PK Offer, the Council is launching a consultation on its Draft Climate Change Strategy, to find out how climate change is already affecting people, and how we can work together to limit its impact. Fill in the online survey here and you will be entered into a prize draw to win money for energy efficiency devices or carbon saving actions, such as insulation and tree planting, or towards active travel. Individuals could win £1000, schools could win £500, and formally constituted community groups will be eligible for a possible prize of £1000.

There will also be a series of virtual Climate Café meetings which you can join: visit the consultation hub for dates and times.

At these meetings there will be a short introduction to the draft strategy, followed by the chance to share your views and shape the final strategy.

Some examples of what the Council has already done are:

  • We have reduced the total energy consumption from our buildings by 17% from 2012 levels

  • We have attracted over £49m in external funding since 2010 for projects contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and climate change adaptions

  • We have reduced the amount of CO2 emissions from our waste by 33% since 2011, through improved waste reduction, reuse and recycle

  • We have installed over 80 electric vehicle charging points

David Littlejohn, Head of Planning and Development, said, "We want to know what more we can do - for example, to encourage sustainable travel should we make walking routes safer, improve real time bus information, or incentivise active travel with a points reward system for local shops?

"How can people in Perth and Kinross help? You have already reduced your general waste by 45% over the last 10 years. What are your ideas for how we can get even better at recycling and reusing, to meet tough targets for waste reduction in the future?

"And how can we work together? For example, how can we help more people reduce their fuel use and bills while keeping their homes warm?

"'Environment' is one of the key elements of the PK Offer because we know it is important to so many people. How we tackle climate change will have an effect on the way we live, travel, work and play, so it's vital that we get it right. Please fill in the survey and come along to a virtual event so that we can learn from your experiences and help to keep Perth and Kinross a beautiful, sustainable place to live."
