Employee wellbeing resources - Accessing support

If you feel like you need a little more support you can find a range of resources here, some internal some external. It's OK not to be OK. It's also OK to be OK, you might still find something interesting here. We all have mental health. Sometimes its good and sometimes we worry and have anxieties, or feel down and it's different for everyone as our situations are unique to us - 'we're all in the stay storm not in the same boat'. If you're finding sleep a bit of a problem, there are lots of Apps you can download and access. Here are some you can try:

  • Sleepio is a clinically-evidenced sleep improvement programme that is fully automated and highly personalised, using cognitive behavioural techniques to help improve poor sleep.
  • Daylight is a smartphone-based app that provides help to people experiencing symptoms of worry and anxiety, using evidence-based cognitive behavioural techniques, voice, and animation.
  • The Positive Mindset App is available to ALL. This audio relaxation based mental training app, based on Olympic sports coaching, contains 12 evidence-based tracks that help with stress, worry, depression and burnout. Also very helpful for improving sleep and coping with shift work, builds mental relaxation skills and increases vitality. This app is free for all and the 12 track program is now available.
  • The Suicide? Help! app is a Tayside resource with information on how to support someone, contact details for local organisations who can help, and a customisable Safety Plan that can be used in crisis. It is free at your app store or by visiting
  • The Protect Scotland app from NHS Scotland's Test and Protect is a free, mobile phone app designed to help us protect each other and reduce the spread of coronavirus. Available from all app stores.

Throughout your working life, you may experience difficulties in dealing with life events. To help you cope with situations which arise in your personal or working life, you can access the following counselling services.

Speak to your manager for a referral to counselling support. You can self refer by phoning 07957 666296 (Monday to Friday, 8.45am to 5pm). This service is confidential and anonymous. Please note that this service does not provide immediate access to counselling. If you are calling the above number and feel you are in an emotionally critical situation, please make this known to the call handler.

If you need to talk to someone immediately call one of the following helplines:

  • Samaritans: 116 123
  • NHS staff can access Care First - NHS Tayside Employee Assistance Resource, for FREE counselling and information on all aspects of life including finance, physical & mental health, work etc.

Financial support

You may have had to reduce your hours for other caring responsibilities, had a partner furloughed or who has lost their job or had some other change which has affected your household income. If you are worried about money and paying bills it is important to get advice quickly before it affects your health and wellbeing.

There are many sources of money advice to help sort out finances.

Debt advice organisations will offer support and guidance on how to deal the debt that you may be worried about:

Community Listening Service

People can discover their strength and find hope when they share what's on their mind with a trained listener.

Early Learning and Childcare

There are so many amazing resources available to support your Wellbeing, and the Early Years Scotland Hub aims to host these to allow easy access. You will find signposts to websites and apps to support your Wellbeing journey.

Mental health - access urgent support

If you need help for a mental health crisis, emergency or breakdown, you should get immediate expert advice and assessment. It's important to know that support is available, even if services seem busy at the moment because of coronavirus.

These services offer confidential advice from trained volunteers. You can talk about anything that's troubling you, no matter how difficult:

  • Call 116 123 to talk to Samaritans
  • Email: for a reply within 24 hours
  • Text "SHOUT" to 85258 to contact the Shout Crisis Text Line, or text "YM" if you're under 19

If you're under 19, you can also call 0800 1111 to talk to Childline. The number will not appear on your phone bill.

Keep an eye on the Learning Programme, there are lots of sessions to support your wellbeing. Not only learning something new you'll meet others too - staying connected is vitally important at this time. These opportunities are open to ALL.

  • TURAS (learning platform hosted by NHS) has a great range of resources which everyone can access. The resources of particular importance at present are within the COVID-19 area (these NHS resources are open to everyone).   • Try COVID-19 Psychological First Aid. This provides the current information for self and for supporting others.
  • H&SCP and Unpaid Carers can also find a range of learning resources at Perth and Kinross Learning specifically to help those delivering care and support.

If you have aches and pain then you can contact our occupational health providers for advice:

  • PKC employees can access PAM Occupational Health - Covid-19 advice and teleconsultation for any musculoskeletal advice, and emotional support.  Telephone: 07957 666296

Talking / listening services

Wellbeing Line 

For the health and social care workforce - this compliments the support offered through the National Wellbeing Hub with provides a range of self-care and wellbeing resources designed to support the workforce as they respond to the impact of Covid-19.  Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners will offer callers a compassionate and empathetic response based on the principles of Psychological First Aid, as well as advice, signposting and onward referral to local services if required. It will operate on a 24/7 basis from 20th July initially for a period of 12 months.

Breathing Space

A free confidential service for anyone over 16 experiencing low mood, depression or anxiety. Sometimes our thoughts and feelings can overwhelm us. It helps to get some Breathing Space.

Listening ear

If you don't feel ready for the challenge of coaching, perhaps you'd just like someone to talk to. All PKC and NHS (HSCP) colleagues can access the Listening Ear service in complete confidentiality. It's not counselling and it's not coaching, its simply someone sitting with you (virtually) to listen and signpost if need be. You're never alone at PKC.

Wellbeing Support Team

The Wellbeing support services delivers a wide spectrum of person centred and outcome focussed work with individuals, small groups and the wider community in rural areas across Perth and Kinross, supporting individuals to develop self-management skills and strategies, to enable them to take responsibility for improved mental health and wellbeing.
