Love was in the air on Friday's Free Bus Day!

More than 4,000 people saved emissions and showed love for their bus and planet by hopping onboard their local bus on Valentine's Friday for free!

Buses operated by Stagecoach East Scotland, Docherty's Midland Coaches, Elizabeth Yule, Earnside Coaches, Bay Travel and Sweeneys Garage all offered the free fare offer on Friday February 10.

A total of 4,293 passengers enjoyed the free bus offer, saving a total of £9,908.95 in fares.

Councillor Andrew Parrott, convener of Perth and Kinross Council's Environment, Infrastructure and Economic Development Committee, said: "This has been another brilliant response to our free bus travel offer on February 10 with many of our residents leaving their car at home whilst travelling to work or enjoying our beautiful countryside."

"It's been particularly heart-warming to see people supporting the evening economy by people visiting our wonderful restaurants or taking in a film at their local cinema."

"Between the free bus travel offer in December and Valentine's Friday, I'm proud that over £33,000 in fares has been saved by families in our area during the cost-of-living crisis."

"Overall this campaign, supported by Smarter Choices Smarter Places funding, has been a resounding success."

The national #LoveMyBus campaign encourages people to travel by bus to reduce congestion and tackle climate change. The team were out and about on the Free Bus Friday, sharing #loveheart sweets, to people engaging in the offer and local bus drivers.

A spokesperson for the campaign said: "It is fantastic to see free bus travel being available to everyone across Perth and Kinross on Friday 10th February, whether by using a concessionary card or through this positive initiative by Perth and Kinross Council supported by Paths for All."

"As well as creating an amazing opportunity to get to work, out and about, or travel for a night out, for free - it also shows bold leadership to reduce congestion and pollution, whilst saving everyone money."

While it is a challenging time across our communities, choosing bus is good for our health, our communities and planet and we would encourage everyone to love our air and keeping reducing emissions by choosing our buses to travel!"
