Perth City will host the City of Perth Salute on Sunday August 6.
In the first week of August, Perth and Kinross welcomes cyclists and visitors to the historic UCI World Cycling Championships Gran Fondo, the popular Perth Show, and renowned horse-racing events and outdoor cinematic experiences at Scone Palace, culminating in the City of Perth Salute which will also honour local champions with the Freedom of the City award presentation.
A fantastic parade, with blends of military and civilian bands, Scottish Military vehicles, music and dance from local and national performers, will kick off the Salute at 12 Noon, leaving Thimblerow and marching down Old High Street, High Street to Tay Street and finishing at the North Inch Arena and Grandstand.
In a special presentation, the Provost will award the Freedom of the City of Perth to Eve Muirhead and the Team GB Olympic Curling Champions, and to double Grand National winning trainers Lucinda Russell OBE and Peter Scudamore MBE. An array of entertainment from music, dance, food and family-friendly activities and a special Salute Fringe, from 12 Noon to 3.30pm will be on offer for all to enjoy.
With such a diverse range of entertainment happening in the city centre, some changes to normal arrangements should be expected to keep disruption to a minimum.
Road closures
The City of Perth Salute Parade will be part of a rolling Road Closure on Sunday August 6. The parade will commence from Thimblerow at 12 Noon and follow a route from Thimblerow, Old High Street, to 2 High Street and then onto Tay Street, arriving on the North Inch Arena and Grandstand. The parade is expected to take around 30 minutes to one hour. The closure will be under the direction of appointed stewards and will operate on a rolling closure basis so disruption will be as minimal and brief as possible.
