Gran Fondo - August 4

The event is part of the UCI Cycling World Championships and will see an international field of riders compete in a long distance race.

Around 2,000 cyclists will be competing across the two events, with qualifiers coming to Perth and Kinross from Australia, Costa Rica, the United States and across Europe.

There will be a series of road closures across Perth and Kinross on the day of the event. Maps and timings are available for download on this page.

Spectators

There are several places along the route where you will be able to watch cyclists as they pass through. 

Bus services

There will be changes to bus services in Perth and Kinross because of the race.

Sweeney's Garage 91 service in the Aberfeldy area will not operate on Friday 4.

Road closures

Perth & Kinross Council made an Order under Section 16(B)(6)(b)" of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

This Order is expected to be in force for the purpose of permitting The Grand/Medio Fondo Cycle Races on the following dates: Thursday 3 August 2023 to Friday 4 August 2023.

The effect of this Order is to prohibit temporarily, all vehicular traffic and prohibit loading and parking (both sides) on the following roads:

1. A989 Tay Street, Perth from its junction with Perth Bridge  to its junction with Queen's Bridge for a distance of 440 metres, or thereby.
2. High Street, Perth from its junction with Tay Street to its junction with St John Street for a distance of 105 metres, or thereby.

This Order is also expected to be in force for the purpose of permitting The Grand/Medio Fondo Cycle Races on the following date: Friday 4 August 2023.

The effect of this Order is to prohibit temporarily, all vehicular traffic, and prohibit loading and parking (both sides) on the following roads:.

1. Mill Street, Bridge Lane, & Horse Cross, Perth from its junction with Cutlog Vennel to its junction with Charlotte Street/
2. George Street, Perth from its junction with Bridge Lane  to its junction with the High Street for a distance of 150 metres, or thereby.
3. A989 Charlotte Street, Perth from its junction with Perth Bridge to its junction with Charlotte Place  for a distance of 85 metres, or thereby.
4. A989 Atholl Street, Perth from its junction with Charlotte Street to its junction with Barrack Street for a distance of 470 metres or thereby.
5. A85 Barrack Street, Perth from its junction with Atholl Street to its junction with Low Street  for a distance of 115 metres or thereby.
6. A85 Dunkeld Road, Perth from its junction with Low Street to its junction with Crieff Road for a distance of 470 metres or thereby.
7. A85 Crieff Road, Perth from its junction with Dunkeld Road to its junction with Newhouse Road R-A-B, Perth for a distance of 2.3 kilometres or thereby.
8. C409 Glenalmond from its junction with the A85(T)  to its junction with the B8063 Buchanty for a distance of 11.75 kilometres or thereby.
9. B8063 Harrietfield from its junction with the A822 Sma Glen to its junction with the C408 Moneydie  for a distance of 17.75 kilometres or thereby.
10. C408 Moneydie from its junction with the B8063 Harrietfield (306522, 729390) to its junction with the B867 Perth Road, Bankfoot  for a distance of 5.8 kilometres or thereby.
11. B867 Bankfoot to Dunkeld from its junction with the C408 Moneydie to its junction with the U116 Pittensorn for a distance of 4.7 kilometres.
12. U116 Pittensorn Road from its junction with the B867 Bankfoot to Dunkeld  to its junction with the B9099 Luncarty to Caputh for a distance of 4.6 kilometres or thereby.
13. B9099 Luncarty to Caputh from its junction with the U116 Pittensorn Road to its junction with the A984 Dunkeld to Bendochy for a distance of 1.5 kilometres or thereby.
14. A984 Dunkeld to Bendochy from its junction with the B9099 Luncarty to Caputh to its junction with the B947 Kirkton of Lethendy  for a distance of 4.4 kilometres or thereby.
15. B947 Kirkton of Lethendy from its junction with the A984 Dunkeld to Bendochy to its junction with the A93 Perth Road, Blairgowrie for a distance of 6.7 kilometres or thereby.
16. A822 Sma Glen from its junction with the B8063 Harrietfield to its junction with the A826 Aberfeldy to Milton for a distance of 13.22 kilometres or thereby.
17. A826 Aberfeldy to Milton from its junction with the A822 Sma Glen to its junction with the A827 Killin to Ballinluig for a distance of 14.62 kilometres or thereby.
18. B846 Aberfeldy to Tummel Bridge from its junction with the A827 Killin to Ballinluig to its junction with the B8019 Strathtummel for a distance of 21.5 kilometres or thereby.
19. B8019 Tummel Bridge to Pitlochry from its junction with the B846 Aberfeldy to Tummel Bridge to its junction the A924 Pitlochry  for a distance of 19.5 kilometres or thereby.
20. A924 Pitlochry from its junction with the B8019 Tummel Bridge to Pitlochry to its junction with Larchwood Road for a distance of 1.35 kilometres or thereby.
21. Larchwood Road, Pitlochry from its junction with the Atholl Road to its junction with Strathview Terrace for a distance of 214 metres or thereby.
22. Strathview Terrace, Pitlochry from its junction with the Larchwood Road to its junction with the A924 Pitlochry to Bridge of Cally  for a distance of 290 metres or thereby.
23. A924 Pitlochry to Bridge of Cally from its junction with Strathview Terrace to its junction with the A93 Braemar to Perth  for a distance of 31 kilometres or thereby.
24. A93 Braemar to Perth from its junction the A924 Pitlochry to Bridge of Cally to its junction with the A85 Perth Bridge, Perth ( for a distance of 34 kilometres or thereby.
25. A85 Perth Bridge, Perth from its junction the A93 Braemar to Perth to its junction with the A989 Charlotte Street, Perth  for a distance of 290 metres or thereby.
26. North Port, Perth from its junction with Charlotte Street to its junction with Blackfriars Wynd for a distance of 110 metres or thereby.
27. Blackfriars Wynd, Perth from its junction with North Port to its junction with Carpenter Street for a distance of 70 metres or thereby.
28. Rose Terrace, Perth from its junction with Atholl Street to its junction with Barossa Place for a distance of 185 metres, or thereby.

The order will also be required to prohibit temporarily, parking & loading (both sides) on the following roads:  

1. Hay Street, Perth from its junction with Balhousie Street to its junction with Balhousie Avenue for a distance of 335 metres, or thereby.
2. Balhousie Avenue, Perth from its junction with Balhousie Street  to its junction with Hay Street for a distance of 90 metres, or thereby.
3. Auld Bond Road, Perth from its junction with Dunkeld Road to its junction with Primrose Crescent  for a distance of 900 metres, or thereby.

The existing one-way orders on George Street & Watergate, Perth will also be required to be rescinded to allow access.

The alternative route for vehicles, where applicable, will be as per the diversion signage.

Emergency service and permitted vehicle access will be maintained and pedestrian access will be maintained to premises adjoining or adjacent to any road affected by the Order.

Waste collections

Bin collections in Highland area on Friday  August 4 may be affected by the Gran Fondo.

We would ask all residents and customers not to anticipate usual collection times on this day and also to be aware of the possibility that some bins may not be collected.

Any bins missed on Friday will however be collected within a 48 hour period after scheduled collection day and bins should be left out if this is the case.
