Perth Academy inspection report

Inspectors from Education Scotland visited Perth Academy in November last year.

The inspectors noted that most young people at the school are welcoming, respectful and have a positive attitude to their learning.

They recognised the headteacher has established a clear vision for improvement. She is increasingly engaging stakeholders in school improvement and providing support and challenge to the school community to increase aspiration and ambition. This will be an important improvement priority moving ahead.

However, inspectors also said more work is necessary to stabilise leadership in the school and support further improvement, including in the quality of learning and teaching in the school.

All staff are also required to plan tasks that are motivating and set appropriate challenges for young people.

There should also be a review of approaches to wellbeing and achievement to ensure pupils maximise their potential.

Learning and Families Convener Councillor John Rebbeck said: "This inspection sets out clearly the steps that must be taken to improve attainment and achievement for pupils at Perth Academy.

"As a Council we are committed to giving every child the best start in life so they can fulfil their potential and will be continuing to provide support and challenge to the school as they implement the recommendations made by Education Scotland.

"We want all children and young people to receive the best possible education available and are always working to improve the quality of education provided in our schools. I look forward to seeing the necessary improvement being made when inspectors revisit the school in the next 12 months."
