Perth and Kinross Council - 23 May 2012

The first meeting of Perth and Kinross Council following the local government elections on 3 May 2012 will be held in the Council Chambers, Fourth Floor, Council Building, 2 High Street, Perth on Wednesday 23 May 2012 at 2.00pm.

1.     Interim Chair of Meeting

        In accordance with Section 4(4) of the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994, the Chief Executive, as Returning Officer, or , whom failing, such member of the Council as may be selected by the meeting, will preside at the meeting until the Convener of the Council has been elected.

2.    Notification of Members Elected

        The Council is asked to receive from the Returning Officer, the icon Notification of Members Elected as Councillors for the Perth and Kinross Council area [260Kb] (copy herewith 12/192) (Pages 1-2)

3.    Declarations of Interest

       Members are reminded that in terms of the Councillors' Code of Conduct, it is their responsibility to make decisions about whether to declare an interest in any item of business on this agenda and whether to take part in any discussions or voting. This will include all interests, whether or not entered on the Register of Interests, which might be perceived as potentially influencing their position on any matter.

4.    Election of Convener of the Council

        In terms of Section 4(1) of the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994, the Council is required to elect a member of the Council to be Convener of the Council, who shall, in terms of the Council's Standing Orders, hold office until the next ordinary election of the Council, unless they cease to be a member of the Council before that date or are removed from office in accordance with the Council's Standing Orders.

5.    Depute Convener of the Council

        In terms of Section 4(2) of the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994, the Council may elect a member of the Council to be Depute Convener of the Council, who shall, in terms of the Council's Standing Orders, hold office until the next ordinary election of the Council unless they cease to be a member of the Council before that date or are removed from office in accordance with the Council's Standing Orders.

        The Council is requested to - 
        (i)     determine whether to elect a Depute Convener of the Council; 
        (ii)    if appropriate, elect a Depute Convener of the Council
