Circles of Support

Circles of Support are currently available for adults over age 65 in Crieff, Comrie and Auchterarder areas of Perth and Kinross and will be expanded into Perth in 2023.

A Circle of Support involves two or more people coming together to help promote and support the goals of an individual. The circle then acts as a network of friendship and support with the person at the centre. It is a means of providing practical advice, solving problems and generating ideas that contributing positively to a person's life.

This is a free and confidential service. You can stop your circle at any time if you feel it is not working for you or your circumstances change.

Is a circle for me?

  • Are you over 65 years old?
  • Do you feel socially isolated?
  • Are you struggling with some household tasks which keep you safe and living well at home, eg clearing your path in the winter, changing a lightbulb etc?
  • Are you new to the area?
  • Are you struggling to meet new people?
  • Have you lost contact with friends?
  • Are you looking to re-connect with your community?
  • Would you like to meet new people or try something different?

Circles of Support may be able to help you with all of these situations by helping to connect you with a volunteer in your area.

How to access the service

You can self-refer by contacting the Circle Volunteer Co-ordinator or calling 07789791264.

Referrals can also be made via GPs, social work services or any other community service or volunteer group working with an adult over age 65 who could benefit from the service.

What happens after a referral?

Once the Circle Volunteer Co-ordinator has received your referral they will arrange an initial meeting to discuss how this would work for you. That meeting could take place at your home or a location that suits you.

If you're happy to go ahead the Co-ordinator will then introduce you to your Circle Volunteer. This service can be medium or long-term, but the length of time your circle will be in place will be discussed and agreed according to your individual needs.

How can I become a Circle Volunteer?

We'd love to have you join. Becoming a Circle volunteer is a great opportunity for people who would like to contribute to their communities and help welcome new residents or those who might have lost touch with their local connections.

To find out more or sign up as a volunteer email circlesvolunteer@pkc.gov.uk or call 07789791264.
