Details

Purpose

Bearing in mind the significant interest in road gully cleaning, this Briefing Note is intended to provide information to all Elected Members regarding the Council's approach.

Briefing Information

Road gully cleaning has recently been discussed at the Economy and Infrastructure Committee on 28 August 2024 through a report on progress and performance over the last few years.

In addition to this detailed report, a video 'All About Road Gullies' has been created with the aims of informing and raising awareness about how road gullies operate and how they are cleansed, and also dispelling some myths about road gullies, their maintenance and limitations on mitigating instances of flooding.

This video will be shared regularly on the Council's corporate social media, both proactively and in answer to public questions about the role of road gullies and the cleaning cycle. It is available on the Council's YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89WfaUdxw5Y. It will also be embedded on our drains and spillages page.

We would encourage Elected Members to share/signpost to their constituents the links to the Committee report and the video so members of the public interested in knowing/understanding more about how the gully system works can benefit from the information they provide.
