Environmental health - Dust issues

Dust is categorised as any fine particles of sand, soil, organic or manufactured materials that can be carried by the wind and subsequently drop onto surfaces. Excess dust can become an annoyance and cause frustration to businesses and residents however dust is unavoidable and, in some circumstances, can be difficult to fully control.

Legislation and enforcement

Trading Standards enforce a wide range of consumer/trade related legislation, for example the Weights and Measures Act 1985, the Consumer Protection Act 1987, the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and the Consumer Credit Act 1974. The legislation involved is made up of numerous major Acts of Parliament and hundreds of regulations affecting almost all businesses to a greater or lesser extent.
