125 Live! Statement from Council leader

125 Live! takes place in Perth City Centre this weekend.

This will be a unique event with over 200 acts participating in a unique street party celebrating 125 years of entertainment in Perth.

However, Perth Theatre and Concert Hall and Perth and Kinross Council understand the scale of the event, road closures and diversions necessary for it to take place safely in the Mill Street area have upset some residents, particularly as there was limited advance notification of these restrictions.

Perth Theatre and Concert Hall and Perth and Kinross Council officers apologise for the lack of appropriate notice.

Council Leader Councillor Grant Laing and Depute Leader Councillor Eric Drysdale contacted Council officers on Thursday to raise concerns about the lack of appropriate levels of communication.

They then met with officers from Perth Theatre and Concert Hall and Perth and Kinross Council on Friday morning to ensure these issues are not repeated for future events.

Councillor Laing said: "Perth has a proud history of staging successful public events and we hope everyone attending 125 Live! enjoys the celebrations this weekend.

"Unfortunately, although there was engagement with nearby businesses and residents, not enough notice of the road and footway closures has been given to the wider public given the scale of the event. We raised this issue with officers from both Perth Theatre and Concert Hall and the Council and they will review their processes and procedures to ensure this does not happen again.

"This summer we have hosted a series of big events such as the European Pipe Band Championships and City of Perth Salute and I am  sure125 Live! will be equally successful."

Taking place across four live stages, stretching from Perth Concert Hall Plaza to Perth Theatre Courtyard, 125 Live! will feature theatrical and musical performances, local groups, societies and community participants as well as spectacular audio-visual displays on surrounding buildings and structures.

There will be free drop-in daytime activities and theatrical performances for families, with food and drinks stands and ticketed outdoor performances on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
