School attendance

It is every parent's duty to ensure that, if their child is of school age, they attend school regularly.

Perth & Kinross Council is committed to working in partnership with parents, children, young people and other stakeholders to ensure that, wherever possible, all children and young people enrolled in our schools receive an education that maximises the opportunity for each child and young person to achieve their potential.

Schools are guided by the Attendance Policy and Guidance for Education and ELC Settings (PDF) [974KB] , which provides a clear and supportive framework to ensure that children and young people attend school, are safe and protected.  It also provides clear steps for school leaders to identify children and young people who may be at risk of having poorer outcomes as a result of low attendance and provides guidance on the actions that should be taken to address this.  Our staff in schools and our support services work with children, young people and their families to ensure that pupils attend regularly and punctually, and that patterns of low attendance do not develop.

If you are having problems with your child's attendance at school, please discuss this with their school in the first instance.

Our whole family wellbeing directory also provides information on a range of services that provide support to families across Perth and Kinross.
