Data Protection legislation gives you rights in relation to the information that the Council holds about you. This page explains these rights below. Please contact the Information Governance team if you have any questions about how the Council processes your personal information.
- The right to be informed - we will be transparent about why we are collecting and using your personal information.
- The right to access your information - you have the right to access information that the Council holds about you. Please see the Accessing your information - Subject Access Requests page for details about how to do this.
- The right to rectification - if you believe that Council holds inaccurate or incomplete personal data you can ask us to change or complete it. We will acknowledge your request and advise you what actions we will take.
- The right to erasure - you have the right to request that the Council erases personal information that it holds ; however, it's very unlikely that we will have to do this in almost all cases because of the reasons why the Council holds information. We will acknowledge your request and advise you within one calendar month about what actions we will take.
- The right to restrict processing - you have the right to request that the Council restricts the processing of your personal data; this may be because you dispute its accuracy or because you don't want us to delete it. We will acknowledge your request and respond to it within one calendar month.
- The right to data portability - you have the right to ask for personal information that the Council holds in order to move, copy or transfer it elsewhere. However, although you have the right to ask the Council to do this, it's unlikely that we will have to comply; this right is more applicable to certain commercial organisations, such as energy companies. We will acknowledge your request and respond to it within one calendar month.
- The right to object - you have the right to object to the Council processing your personal data if you don't believe we have legitimate grounds for doing so. We will advise you of our decision in relation to your request as soon as possible.
- Rights in relation to automated decision making and processing - we will tell you if we make an automated decision, including profiling, with your personal information. If we do this you have the right to ask us to make this decision manually instead.
More information about individual rights in respect of the processing of personal information is available on the Information Commissioner's Office website.
