Scotland's mental health first aid training
By the end of the 12-hour interactive course, participants will:
- have an understanding of suicide, self-harm and mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks and psychosis
- know how to recognise if someone is experiencing a mental health problem
- have practiced skills to help a person who is developing a difficulty with their mental health
- be able to support people to access appropriate help, including both professional support and evidence-based self-help strategies
Who is this training aimed at?

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
ASIST is a two-day comprehensive workshop for anyone who wants to learn how to recognise the signs of suicidal thoughts and how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. The course is designed to help all in communities to become more willing, ready and able to help people at risk of suicide.
Participants will be able to:
- recognise invitations for help
- reach out and offer support
- review the risk of suicide
- apply a suicide intervention model
- link people with community resources
Who is this training aimed at?
Staff and volunteers in any statutory or third sector organisation who provides a service in Perth and Kinross. For further information, view SMHFA's 'Find a course' webpage. Courses have no charge locally.
