Refreshed Guidance Consultation
The GIRFEC Strategic Group overseeing the refresh of GIRFEC in Perth and Kinross is committed to supporting practitioners across all organisations, services and agencies delivering services for children, young people and their families to deliver GIRFEC. A multi-agency sub-group, Guidance and Service Delivery, was formed to draft guidance that supports local implementation of the national GIRFEC guidance. This group has drafted a series of Guidance Notes (PDF, 1 MB) covering key aspects of GIRFEC and the group is now seeking feedback on this document. Additional Guidance Notes will be added to the series as these are developed.
Consultation is now open and will end on Friday 24 April 2026.

The concept of wellbeing is central to the Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) approach.

The National Practice Model
Every practitioner should draw on the GIRFEC National Practice Model when assessment, planning and action are needed.

Named Person
Children and young people from birth to 18, or beyond if still in school, have access to a Named Person to help support their wellbeing as part of the GIRFEC approach.
Lead professional
Some children and young people will have a Lead Professional to co-ordinate the plan that has been decided will help and support the child.
Child's plan
A child's plan is a single planning framework that provides a consistent approach to planning, delivery and co-ordinate support.
Information sharing
Appropriate sharing of relevant information is a vital part of the early intervention approach that is at the heart of GIRFEC.
