How to use your Community Alarm

If you need help: press your pendant or the red button on the alarm unit

The alarm unit does not require to be connected to a telephone line anymore. All alarm units that we install now are digital and have a SIM card in them. They operate using a mobile signal connection and roam across all the networks to find the best signal. If you live in an area with a poor mobile network signal, we may have to look at different ways to connect your alarm.

Please inform your house insurance company that you have a Community Alarm and that you have issued keys to your home to your keyholders. If you do not, you may not be properly insured.

Please note that if Community Alarm call your landline, it will be from an 0333 number which is charged at your standard network rate. We recommended for all Community Alarm clients to have keyholders that live close by so they can be contacted to be with you and make you comfortable in cases were the team may be delayed reaching you.

Do

  • always wear your pendant during the day. Leave pendant within easy reach whilst in bed
  • place a test call to the Control Centre once a month using your pendant
  • tell the Control Centre if any of your keyholders' information has changed
  • tell the Control Centre if you change your keysafe number
  • tell us if you are going on holiday or if you are going into hospital
  • tell us if you have lost your pendant or are having any issues with the unit

Don't

  • unplug the unit or move the unit without getting the signal strength tested
  • wear pendant in bed
  • immerse the pendant in water - the pendant is showerproof; whilst having a bath, place the pendant nearby so that you can summon assistance if required
  • if you are admitted to hospital, please don't take your pendant with you
  • don't keep pressing the pendant, the team will be aware assistance is required even if you cannot hear the controller

If you have any queries, please get in touch with the team by telephoning 01738 459600 or emailing HCCCommunityAlarms@pkc.gov.uk.
