Proposal and Consultation for an Intensive Support Provision at St John's RC Academy

The Learning and Families Committee on Wednesday 27 August 2025 approved Report 25/214 which proposed to establish a new Intensive Support Provision (ISP) in St John's RC Academy. This report presented an Options Appraisal following an assessment of building capacity.

As a result, this Committee approved to prepare and publish a Proposal Paper (Word doc, 164 KB) and commence formal consultation on the following proposal:

  • To permanently establish a new Intensive Support Provision (ISP) in St John's RC Academy for pupils with Additional Support Needs with effect from August 2026.

Formal consultation

The Consultation was undertaken in line with the requirements of the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010.

The consultation period ran from Wednesday 5 November 2025 until Friday 19 December 2025, a total of 31 school days.

A public notice was placed in the local press.

Public meeting

A public meeting was held to discuss the proposal and the Proposal Paper. The meeting was an opportunity for interested parties to:

  • hear more about the proposal
  • ask questions about the proposal
  • have their views recorded so that they can be taken into account as part of the consultation process

Anyone wishing to attend the meeting was invited to do so.

A note of questions and views was taken at the meeting. The notes of the meeting are published above and a printed copy will be made available upon request to the Schools Consultation Team.

Interested parties were invited to respond to the proposal by making written, electronic or online submissions on the proposal by no later than close of business on Friday 19 December 2025.

Publication of Consultation Report and decision

The next stage of the consultation process was the publication of the report on the outcome and findings of the Statutory Consultation. This was prepared after Education Scotland completed their visits to the school and prepared their report on the proposals. The Consultation Report (PDF, 580 KB) was published from Wednesday 22 April 2026 until Friday 15 May 2026 before the proposal was considered and agreed by the Learning and Families Committee on Wednesday 27 May 2026. Report 26/141 refers.
