The Economy and Infrastructure Committee will consider an amended school exclusion zone around Viewlands Primary School in Perth when they meet next week (Wednesday 19 November 2025).
The proposed changes reduce the scope of roads included within the restricted vehicle zone, reflecting both community feedback and the impact experienced during the initial trial.
The Viewlands Primary School exclusion zone was first introduced following concerns raised by parents, carers and residents about traffic congestion and safety at the school gates. While the original exclusion zone trialled in 2022 helped increase pedestrian movements around the school and was initially supported by drivers, compliance with the vehicle restrictions has reduced over time.
Following a review of the roads included within the exclusion zone and feedback from parents, residents and pupils at the school, the amended School Exclusion Zone is recommended to include Oakbank Crescent, the upper sections of Oakbank Place and Murray Place, and Fraser Terrace.
Councillor Eric Drysdale, Convener of the Economy and Infrastructure Committee said: "Pupil safety remains our top priority, and school exclusion zones are an important way to reduce traffic at the school gates. These measures will work if everyone works together, parents, residents, the Council and the police to place the safety of pupils over individual convenience.
"The amended zone for Viewlands will help to both create a safer environment for children while ensuring access for those who need it. We are committed to working with partners in the community and police to support drivers to be aware of and respect these restrictions through clear advice and regular reminders about the reason for the arrangements."
If approved by Committee a new Traffic Regulation Order will be promoted to reflect the reduced school exclusion zone.
