The Council's Children and Disabilities Social Work Team have been working recently to develop further, creative ways to engage with families in the Perth and Kinross area that they work with.
In October 2025, the team secured their own dedicated allotment space with the help of the North Perthshire Allotment Association.
The allotment will offer access to nature and a calming outdoor space for children and young people who may not otherwise have these opportunities.
The team have been working hard to get the space ready over recent weeks and have now prepared the space for use - a polytunnel and compost box have been added and they will continue to develop the space alongside the families using it.
Learning and Families Committee Convener, Councillor John Rebbeck said: "This is a fantastic initiative for local children and young people with disabilities to get involved in gardening, food growing and enjoy the outdoors with their families. I'm delighted that our staff have been thinking out of the box and working with community organisations to secure an allotment that can be put to valuable use for learning and therapeutic opportunities."
If anyone has spare wood/fence posts, chicken wire, compost or bark they would be happy to donate to the North Perthshire Allotment Association, which would also help the Children and Disabilities Team to continue to develop their allotment space, please email ChildrenandDisabilityTeam@pkc.gov.uk.
