Alyth Amateurs celebrating first home match in two years

Alyth Amateur Football Club will kick off their first home match in two years when repairs to their fire-damaged pavilion are completed in the New Year.

The building was damaged in a fire in August 2023, forcing the club to play their home games in Blairgowrie.

Now thanks to a partnership between the club, Alyth Development Trust, and Perth and Kinross Council, the team will finally be able to enjoy some home support in the new year.

The pavilion will be a valuable public space which will be available for the community and local groups to use.

Local contractors SHH Construction are repairing the fire-damaged pavilion, which was being refurbished when the fire broke out.

This work is expected to finish early in 2026 when AAFC will fit out the changing rooms with benches, clothing hooks before resuming home fixtures at home, rather than Blairgowrie.

Alyth Development Trust will enter in to a lease agreement with PKC with the aim of the Pavilion becoming a community asset run through a management group including representatives of AAFC, ADT, Alyth Community Council and others.

Councillor Tom McEwan, convener of Perth and Kinross Council's Housing and Wellbeing Committee, said: "Football clubs like AAFC are an important part of their communities so it will be great to see the pavilion brought back into use and the team playing at home again.

"The pavilion will be more than just a changing room for football teams though - it will be a great facility available for the entire Alyth community."

David Whipps of Alyth Development Trust said: "We are really pleased to have been in a position to help get the Pavilion back in to use. This is a great example of how ADT can help to address and tackle local issues and needs."

Alyth play in the first division team of Perthshire Amateur Football Association.

Dave Barclay from AAFC said: "It has been a long time since Alyth Amateurs were able to pull on their jerseys at the Big Park. Thanks to a great deal of concerted effort, 2026 is now shaping up to mark the return of our home fixtures in Alyth.

"I would like to extend my thanks to the staff at Perth and Kinross Council, ADT, and SHH Construction, as well as the club members, for their commitment and determination in helping to bring this project to completion."
