Updated parking charges to cut cost of multi-storey car parks in Perth

Perth and Kinross Council will introduce updated parking charges on 27 April to encourage greater use of the city's multi-storey car parks.

By bringing long-stay prices into line across Perth and Kinross, the updated structure will make it easier for residents, workers and visitors to choose the right option for their journey and create a clearer, fairer and more consistent approach to parking across Perth city centre and surrounding towns.

The changes will standardise rates across all long stay car parks, including the Kinnoull Street and Canal Street multi-storey sites. This will mean lower prices for drivers using the multi-storey car parks, bringing their costs in line with other long-stay locations.

It currently costs motorists £12.80 for a full day's parking (up to 10 hours) at Kinnoull Street, Canal Street and Thimblerow.

Under the revised charges, this price will be reduced to £6.40 - the same price as other long-stay car parks such as the South Inch.

Encouraging greater use of multi-storey sites will help free up short-stay spaces at street level, improving access to shops, services and businesses in the city centre and helping to keep traffic moving.

Revised charges will also apply across Council-managed on-street and off‑street parking in Perth, as well as car parks in Crieff, Blairgowrie, Pitlochry and Dunkeld.

The move was agreed as part of this year's Budget, along investment in a £200,000 City Centre Improvement Task Force.

The pilot scheme will deliver visible improvements to Perth's city centre through deep cleaning, repairs, and enhancing the appearance of vacant units.

A new £74 million leisure facility has also been approved for construction on Thimblerow which will bring additional visitors into the centre, complementing other attractions such as Perth Museum and Perth Art Gallery.

Strategic Lead for Housing and Communities, Elaine Ritchie  said:  "These changes are about more than updating parking charges. By making long‑stay prices clearer and more consistent, we can encourage better use of our multi‑storey car parks, free up short‑stay spaces in the city centre and make it easier for residents, workers and visitors to get around.

"This supports local businesses and helps create a more accessible and welcoming city centre for everyone."
