An HMIE inspection visit to Kettins Primary School in March 2026 has identified praiseworthy work within the school, according to their inspection report published this week (Tuesday 19 May 2026).
As well as considering the school to rank as 'good' on the quality of learning, teaching and assessment and its' efforts to raise attainment and achievement, the inspection team identified a number of other important strengths:
- Effective collaboration by the acting headteacher and staff that is creating positive, respectful and trusting relationships with children, parents and the community. Inspectors also found a welcoming, caring and inclusive ethos across the school which made children at Kettins Primary School feel safe, valued and nurtured.
- Confident, articulate children who were very polite and welcoming to visitors, proud of their school and making good progress with their learning
- Staff who were implementing high-quality learning and teaching well across the school.
The inspection report has noted a number of areas for improvement which have been discussed with the acting headteacher and staff from the Council's Education and Learning Service:
- Improved learning planning and tracking of progress that meets all pupils' needs across the curriculum, including more opportunities for children to be fully engaged in planning and leading their own learning.
- Continued support by staff to enable children to understand how their achievements tie into skills for learning, life and work
- Continued monitoring of the impact of work done by senior school staff and Education and Learning to take forward safeguarding improvements.
As Kettins Primary School is considered to have the capacity to make continued improvement, HMIE will make no further visits in relation to this inspection.
Learning and Families Convener, Councillor John Rebbeck said: "This is an upbeat assessment for Kettins Primary School and highlights a range of significant strengths across the work of the school. We will continue to keep parents and carers with children at Kettins informed about progress of on the areas identified by inspectors for improvement as part of our normal information sharing activities. I very much congratulate everyone in the school community for their efforts."
