Councillors will next week (17 June 2026) be asked to back proposals to secure the future of library services within community services hubs.
Recognising that libraries are much more than places to borrow books, the library services report being considered by Perth and Kinross Councillors sets out that a 'community services hub model' could help address the challenges faced by rising operating costs and changing patterns in how people access and use library services.
Councillor Eric Drysdale, Leader of Perth and Kinross Council, said: "There's been a question mark hanging over the future of libraries in Perth and Kinross for far too long. Retaining community-based library services alongside opportunities for health, third sector, cultural and tourism partners will help secure the future of libraries while expanding their role to bring in other activities of benefit to local residents and visitors alike.
"There won't be a one-size fits all solution here. Each place will have its own opportunities in terms of building access and space, but that creates even more chances to work with local communities and partners to find the right local fit."
