Trading standards

Trading Standards protects consumers and traders in Perth and Kinross by enforcing legislation, offering advice to businesses, investigate offences and prosecute offenders when necessary.

Legislation and enforcement

Trading Standards enforce a wide range of consumer/trade related legislation, for example the Weights and Measures Act 1985, the Consumer Protection Act 1987, the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and the Consumer Credit Act 1974. The legislation involved is made up of numerous major Acts of Parliament and hundreds of regulations affecting almost all businesses to a greater or lesser extent.

Consumer advice

Consumer advice for residents of Perth and Kinross is now provided by the Scottish Government funded Advice Direct Scotland, a telephone and online consumer advice service, which is supported by local authorities in Scotland.
