Learn Gaelic in Perth and Kinross

Perth & Kinross Council deliver a number of beginners Gaelic classes and conversation classes for those with Gaelic. At present these opportunities are being delivered online and usually promoted via our social media channels. Contact the Adult Learning Hub for further information.

Abair Thusa is a Gaelic conversation group that meets on a Wednesday afternoon from 2pm - 4pm at AK Bell Library. This is a great opportunity for Gaelic learners and fluent speakers to use their Gaelic together.

Perth College UHI

Perth College often hold Gaelic language classes as part of their leisure course programme. More information can be found at Perth College UHI or by contacting 01738 877000.

Family learning

In partnership with the national Gaelic Community Learning & Development body, Perth & Kinross Council can provide information to families with children in Gaelic Medium Education on family learning events. Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic Language College on the Isle of Skye, run an annual event attended by parents from across Scotland. For more information, contact the Gaelic Development Officer.

Gaelic resources

Libraries across Perth and Kinross hold a wide collection of Gaelic books and music resources for children and adults. There is a large collection held at Breadalbane Community Library but are available for request and collection at your nearest library. AK Bell Library in the centre of Perth holds a number of vintage Gaelic books and records in their Local Studies department, a number of these books are held on behalf of the Gaelic Society of Perth.  View the  Gaelic Society List of Books (PDF) [42KB] .

Gaelic language courses are also available to borrow from your nearest library.

Online courses for Gaelic speakers

Whether you're interested in learning Gaelic from scratch or already have some Gaelic language skills, these online resources provide various different Gaelic Learning courses and opportunities.

All Perth & Kinross Council residents are eligible for free internet access at any of the Libraries across the area. Online and distance courses are available for learners, as well as online resources for learning a few words of Gaelic.   Ask at your local library for information on how to access the internet service.
