Gypsy / Traveller community

The Gypsy/Traveller community are and have been part of Scottish life for centuries. Gypsy/Traveller groups across Scotland contain a diverse mixture of languages, customs, religions and specific ethnic groups with a great importance placed on family networks and the passing down of culture and traditions to the next generations.

Blue-green algae

Blue-green algae (Cyanobacteria) are tiny organisms which occur naturally in lochs, ponds, reservoirs, and rivers.

Noise disturbances

Sound is essential to our daily lives, but unwanted noise can be a source of irritation and stress for many people.

Accumulations

The significant build-up of waste at both residential and commercial premises is an ever-increasing issue.

Dust issues

Dust is categorised as any fine particles of sand, soil, organic or manufactured materials that can be carried by the wind and subsequently drop onto surfaces. Excess dust can become an annoyance and cause frustration to businesses and residents however dust is unavoidable and, in some circumstances, can be difficult to fully control.

Odours

Intense and persistent odours affecting a home, and its occupants can often cause upset. Officers within the Environmental Health Team will investigate odours that are causing a significant impact on the enjoyment of a home.

Sewerage, drainage, and septic tanks

As a significant part of Perth and Kinross comprises rural areas there can be issues with drainage and private sewerage systems. It is the responsibility of landowners/occupiers to ensure that they maintain private drains and tanks within the curtilage of their property.

Infectious diseases

The Environmental Health team work in partnership with NHS Tayside Health Protection Team to investigate a range of infectious diseases identified in members of the public in Perth and Kinross.

Smoke issues

Smoke from residential, business, and industrial premises can impact neighbouring properties.
