Electrical safety check programme underway in Council homes

The Council is currently carrying out a programme of work to check the electrical systems in tenants' homes.

These checks are a legal requirement which must be carried out to ensure the safety of our tenants and their homes. We need to to ensure that all of our houses have an EICR. These will be refreshed every five years, or at change of tenancy.

Our Electrical Installation Condition Report contract (EICR) is being carried out by contractor Valley Group Ltd.

Most of our our homes already meet the standard, but we have sent a letter to all tenants who will need the checks carried out to inform you about this work. After you receive a letter you will then be contacted by the contractor who will arrange to visit your home to carry out the work at a convenient time.

As we are legally obliged to carry out these checks,we will require access to your home so the work can be done. Please do not ignore any communications from us or our contractor. We will always try to make sure that that visits are carried out at a time that suits you.

If we cannot access your home after repeated attempts to make an appointment, we may have to force access to your home. This will always be a last resort and you may be charged for the forced access work.
