Last year we had a fantastic response from tenants who wanted a free wi-fi sensor fitted in their home.
The Council's Housing Service fit environmental sensors that will monitor heat, humidity, and carbon dioxide levels. The small devices are linked to the internet through a new national gateway system put in place by the Scottish Government. The sensors work in the background to check that the atmosphere in your home is the best that it can be for your health. The sensors are free of charge*, make no noise and do not have any energy running costs for customers as they use batteries supplied by us. *A charge would only be applied if the sensor/s are misused or discarded.
Perth and Kinross Council are actively working in our communities to install sensors in properties identified to be affected by damp, mould and condensation. In addition, we are engaging with our contractor iOpt, to support the installation of sensors in specific streets where several damp, mould and condensation enquiries have been reported.
The sensors are small, and it takes around 10 minutes to install. The Repairs Inspector will install these in a few rooms.
Please make sure you are at home when the appointment is arranged so your sensor can be fitted. If you need to rearrange your appointment please email HousingIoT@pkc.gov.uk or call 07407828185.
The sensors can identify:
- When mould and damp might start to be a problem in your home
- When ventilation in your home can be improved
- When air quality could be improved
- If you are using your heating efficiently.
Following this pilot scheme in 2023 we are now taking steps to roll-out the sensors to more of our homes. The sensors have already gathered data that has helped us to assist several tenants to make their homes healthier..
