Householders are reminded that on Christmas Day, Boxing Day (Thursday 25 and Friday 26 December 2025) and the New Year Bank Holidays (Thursday 1 and Friday 2 January 2026), there will be no kerbside bin collections, all 9 Recycling Centres will be closed, as well as all public toilets, Perth Crematorium and Greyfriars Cemetery. The last special uplift collection for 2025 will be on Thursday 18 December, and collections will resume on Monday 5 January 2026.
Households scheduled to have their green, blue, or grey bins collected on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 December will instead be collected on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 December, respectively. Similarly, households scheduled to have their green, blue, or grey bins collected on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 January will instead be collected on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 January, respectively.
Some households will be contacted by letter with different collection dates. If you have been contacted directly by post with different collection dates than the above, please follow the advice in the letter.
There will be no brown bin collections after Sunday 21 December, with this service returning to normal from Monday 5 January.
Kerbside bins for all waste types should only be presented for collection with the lid closed, by 7:30am on the day of collection. If householders do have excess waste this can be taken to Recycling Centres.
Reducing and recycling your food waste is one of the best things that we can do to help the environment and save money over the festive period.
Write a meal plan, stick to a shopping list, or have an assigned shelf in the fridge with products that need to be used first.
You can find some great recipes and some useful hints and tips on the The Love Food Hate Waste website.
If you have a brown bin, you can use it to recycle all cooked and uncooked food even if you don't have a Garden Waste Permit. Residents in Perth city centre and Crieff can use communal food waste bin hubs to recycle food waste.
Real Christmas trees can be chopped up and added to your home compost bin or placed in your brown bin if you have a valid Garden Waste Permit. If you don't have a brown bin or a Garden Waste Permit, then your tree should be taken to your local Recycling Centre. Neither real nor artificial Christmas trees will be lifted if left at the kerbside.
If there is severe weather over Christmas and New Year, the bin lorry crews will do their best to reach your home however it may not always be possible.
If your bin is missed due to severe weather, please leave it out for 48 hours and the Council will attempt to return for it.
If the Council is unable to come back for it, please return bins to the usual storage point and re-present on the next scheduled collection day. If you have excess waste or recycling, please use local Recycling Centres or Recycling Points.
Any updates on waste and recycling collections will be posted on our service disruption page, and on the Waste Services Facebook page.
