Self and custom build housing

Self and custom build housing are homes built or contracted by individuals or groups of individuals for their own use. These homes offer a unique alternative to standard market housing, bespoke to the needs of an individual, family or group, with their input on design and features. This offers the opportunity to create innovative, greener, and more affordable homes than sometimes offered through standard housing options.

Perth & Kinross Council is keen to encourage greater self-build opportunities and are here to help you through the process. Building a house can be daunting but rewarding and can create greater choice if the plot is affordable. As part of the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 (Section 16E), we are now required to prepare and maintain a list of anyone interested in acquiring land for self-build across the authority's area.

Self-build register

If you are interested in self-build, please complete the self-build register form. This allows us to understand need and demand within the area and help match you to your chosen location. Registration does not always guarantee that a suitable plot will be identified or become available immediately, but it helps us to form a long-term strategy to match plots to interested parties.

By signing up, you will help us find out more about the demand for self-build plots across Perth & Kinross, where people would like their plot to be and the type of house that they would like to build.

We will use the information to identify areas of demand and appropriate sites. This will help us to explore ways in which it might be possible for people and plots to be brought together. Registration does not however guarantee that a suitable plot will be identified or become available.
