A network of free public hotspots in public buildings is available offering free access to residents and visitors complementing existing commercial hotspots.
Perth & Kinross Council, with the support of the UK Government (via the Urban Broadband Fund), is working to make Perth City a Super-Connected City making it one of the best digitally connected cities in Scotland and the UK.
Perth City digital infrastructure is being developed to give access to ultrafast (at least 80mbps) to all premises. Access means that all businesses and homes would have the opportunity to contract a service which would provide that speed.
Free public hotspots
In 2014, a network of free public hotspots in public buildings was, and is continuing to be developed, offering free access to residents and visitors complementing existing commercial hotspots. View the Wi-fi hotspots map.
This complements existing free public hotspots at Perth Railway Station and Perth Horsecross. Free public WiFi hotspots will also be installed at the Fergusson Gallery and Letham Community Centre.
A wide selection of businesses and attractions throughout the city also offer WiFi services.
Mobile Wireless Coverage
Perth & Kinross Council will also work with mobile operators to improve 3G and 4G mobile wireless coverage where coverage is poor.
