We have permanent recycling banks for small waste electrical and electronic equipment (small WEEE) in place across Perth and Kinross.
What is small WEEE?
Small WEEE is anything powered by a battery or a plug. Recycling banks for small WEEE are sited at convenient locations which can be accessed on foot, by bike, by bus or by car so that they can be easily diverted from landfill:
| Location | Address | Size of hatch for small-electricals |
|---|---|---|
| Bertha Park Recycling Point | Adamson Avenue, Bertha Park, Perth | 62cm wide by 44cm high |
| Oakbank Community Centre Recycling Point | Viewlands Road West, Perth | 62cm wide by 44cm high |
| Auchterarder Park Recycling Point | Public Park, Townhead, Auchterarder | 40cm wide by 25cm high |
| Crown Inn Wynd Recycling Point, Auchterarder | Off Auchterarder High Street | 40cm wide by 25cm high |
How can I recycle larger electrical items?
- Larger broken electrical items can be recycled (by car) at our recycling centres or (from the kerbside) via our bulky uplift service.
- Larger working electrical items can be reused via reuse projects (PDF, 641 KB) or via online exchange networks such as Freecycle or Freegle.
- Many DIY stores and other shops which sell electrical and electronic equipment will accept WEEE for recycling (although to collect an old appliance from your home when a new one is being delivered, there will often be a collection fee).
Please note:
- plug-in oil radiators cannot be recycled as small WEEE and should instead be recycled alongside fridges and freezers at any of our Recycling Centres
- battery-operated, single-use disposable vapes, (such as Elf Bars) cannot be recycled as small WEEE: these must only be recycled at our Recycling Centres, dropped off at the household batteries collection point
Separate battery recycling
Where possible, please remove the batteries from your electrical item before recycling it in the WEEE bank (or the WEEE skip in the recycling centre).
Batteries can be then recycled separately at any shop which sells batteries or at any of our recycling centres.
Removing personal information from your small WEEE
If you are reusing or recycling a working mobile phone, smart phone, ipad, laptop or computer, consider putting it back to Factory Settings so that all of your personal information is removed.
Alternatively, the hard drive can be removed from your working or non-working computer or laptop before it is recycled.
WRAP advises that free software can be downloaded from the internet to wipe your computer or laptop of personal information, and Eradication Tools which are approved by the CESG (the Government's National Technical Authority for Information Assurance) are available.
