Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport (PEPAS)

Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport (PEPAS) can all be used to develop a child's physical competence and confidence. Building a strong foundation from the earliest age can enhance their health and wellbeing; cognitively, mentally and socially resulting in pupils achieving better academically and living happy lives.

Ten PEPAS groups have been established across P&K to provide an integrated planning approach for a more effective progression in learning between primary and secondary school staff, Active Schools and sports clubs.

  • Provide a more effective progression in learning and 2 hours of quality PE
  • Ensure consistency in the quality of PE delivered across the authority
  • Improve transition from P7-S1 and consistency across schools.
  • Ensure transition from PE to physical activity and sport by developing links with local sports clubs.
  • Provide all pupils with a rich variety of opportunities including extracurricular clubs to help be active for minimum 1 hour per day and for sustained involvement in physical activity throughout their school years and beyond.
  • Ensure wider achievement events in competitive school sport are available to all pupils
  • Coordinate the provision of career long professional learning opportunities for staff & volunteers
  • Increase the number of qualified young people volunteering in school and community sport.
