Appeals - Housing Benefit

Housing Benefit applicants have up to one month to appeal, or request a statement of reasons.

If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of the Housing Benefit decision, within one month of the decision, you can request:

  • A Statement of Reasons - This will provide you with a more detailed explanation of our decision.
  • Reconsideration of our Decision - We will look at our decision again and advise you of the outcome and any new appeal rights which you will have.

To request a statement of reasons or reconsideration, write to Council Tax Reduction Team, Revenues and Benefits Service, Pullar House, 35 Kinnoull Street, Perth, PH1 5GD.

Appeal Process

The time available to appeal can be extended by the time it has taken us to provide you with an expanded statement of reasons if this is appropriate.

If we think the decision is correct we will write to you, explaining why and giving you the chance to withdraw your appeal. If we do not hear from you within a calendar month of this letter being sent your appeal will be passed to The Tribunals Service.

If we think the decision was wrong and we change it to your disadvantage, we will write to you about the new decision and give you the chance to comment on it. If we do not hear from you within one calendar month, your appeal will be passed to The Tribunals Service.

If we think the decision was wrong and we change it to your advantage we will write to you about it. Your original appeal will then be closed, but you will be given new appeal rights for the new decision.
