Brown bin

Recycle your cooked and uncooked food waste together with your garden waste

To check the waste and recycling collections your household receives, or to print off your collection calendar(s), please use our household collection date finder

Your Brown Bin Service

All households with a brown bin can use this to recycle all cooked and uncooked food waste, without charge, including: dairy, eggs, meat and fish including bones, tea bags, coffee grounds, bread, pastries, cakes, fruit, vegetables, rice and pasta.

If you have signed up to the Chargeable Garden Waste Collection Service, you will also be able to recycle garden waste together with food waste in your brown bin.

Please note all brown bin collections are suspended for one uplift over the festive period.

Chargeable Garden Waste Collection Service

Householders who have signed up the Chargeable Garden Waste Collection Service will be able to dispose of garden items such as grass, leaves, weeds, twigs and hedge cuttings, etc, in your brown bin together with your cooked and uncooked food waste.

There is an annual charge for the Garden Waste Collection Service. For more information, or to register and pay, visit our Chargeable Garden Waste Service pages

For information on how to compost at home, please visit our dedicated composting pages.

Correct presentation of wheeled bins

Make sure your wheeled bin is put out at the agreed location by 7:30 am on the day of collection, and returned to your bin storage point by the end of the day:

  • Do not contaminate your recycling bins
  • Do not place plastic bags in either of your recycling bins. Plastic bags will be treated as contamination, and may result in your bin not being emptied
  • Do not overfill your bin and ensure that the lid is closed
  • Do not put out additional waste or recycling next to your bin as this is not permitted and will not be uplifted. Excess waste and recycling can be taken to your local recycling centre.

Additional or replacement bins

You can request an additional brown bin or a replacement bin if your brown bin is lost, stolen or damaged.
