A licence is required to operate any private market. "Private Market"; means a market, whether covered or not, carried on by any person other than a local or public authority; at which goods are offered by more than one seller for sale by retail to the public.

Discount for Market Operator Licence if Public Entertainment Licence in place
If you already have a Public Entertainment Licence in place or are applying for a Public Entertainment Licence at the same time, you are eligible for a reduced fee for the Market Operator Licence. Both licences have to be for the same event and held in the same name for the reduced fee to apply. How much does a licence cost?
The application fee payable depends on the length of licence that you want. A one year licence is £228 and a three year licence is £303.
The fees change every year so check with the licensing office before you send payment.

What happens if the Council fails to make a decision on my application within 9 months?
The licence will be granted or renewed.
