Details

Purpose

This Briefing Note provides the latest estimates of levels of child poverty in Perth and Kinross for the period 2023-2024 and details of the actions taken by the Council and its partners in the Perth and Kinross Anti-Poverty Task Force to mitigate the impacts of poverty on children and families locally during that period.

Briefing Information

The headline figures show there were an estimated 5,155 children living in poverty in Perth and Kinross in 2023/24, down from 5,750 the previous year.

This means that 19.2% of all children are living in poverty, down slightly from 21.7% the year before.

There were an estimated 17,400 adults living in relative poverty - one in five of all people of working age and pensioners.

The report also looks at the impact of housing costs on poverty, the rates of child poverty in each ward and the mitigation efforts being undertaken by Perth and Kinross to reduce child poverty.

The attached PDF (PDF, 1 MB) provides the full data outlined above.

A news release regarding the figures will also be issued today and will be shared with you for your information.
