About this Briefing Note
Report by: John Beveridge, Strategic Lead - Property Services
Date: 30 January 2026
Subject: Perth Grammar School
Details
Purpose
This Briefing Note provides an update on the heating issues affecting Perth Grammar School
Briefing Information
The heating system at Perth Grammar School partially failed on Wednesday 28 January due to several burst pipes. This has resulted in areas of the school having to close with a disruption to service delivery.
Emergency repairs have been undertaken to restore heating to some areas. However, due to the location of the pipework under the floor further repairs will take longer than anticipated due to confined space working and Health and Safety procedures.
The result of the ongoing heating repairs will mean that heating will be restored to the school in phases with some areas fully operation by Wednesday, 4 February but the full heating system will not be operational again until Friday, 6 February.
The contractor and Property teams are working hard to improve these timescales, and further updates will be provided as works progress.
The school is exploring partial opening on Monday and Tuesday to around 50% of school pupils and will provide a further update to Members when more details are available.
Update 5.45pm:
The school worked hard to remain fully open this week but, due to the closure of a different school zone, the number of impacted classrooms will increase from 9 to 16.
There will therefore need to be a partial school closure on Monday and Tuesday impacting S2 pupils.
S1 will be prioritised as the youngest children from a HWB perspective, S3-6 have been prioritised due to key assessments and prelims. The school is trying to minimise disruption to upcoming qualifications.
S2 will be at home remote learning on Monday and Tuesday. Connections will remain open.
