Subject: Scott Street junction
Details
Purpose
This Briefing Note provides Elected Members with an update on road closures in Perth city centre following last year's fire at Scott Street.
Briefing Information
A Perth city centre junction closed since a fatal fire in June last year will re-open on Monday 23 February.
A man died and two people, an eight-year-old girl and a 27-year-old man, were injured in the fire at Scott Street on 14 June.
Fifty-five households had to be rehoused after damage to the building made neighbouring structures unsafe.
A Chihuahua puppy called Vilo was also rescued from the building after surviving almost two weeks in the burnt-out tenement.
The fire-damaged tenement had to be demolished and stabilisation work completed on adjacent buildings.
Although the junction of Scott Street and South Street will re-open on Monday, it will be single lane outside That Bar to allow footway works to be completed.
Footway works outside Price Crushers will be completed once scaffolding has been removed.
Work to reinstate the junction at Princes St leading to South Street to one way will be carried out week commencing 2 March.
A road closure will be required while this work is undertaken, We plan to resurface the carriageway between Canal Street and South Street at the same time.
From 23 February the temporary loading bays and bus bays will be removed and reinstated to the previous traffic restrictions at the following locations:
- South Methven Street (outside Marcotrition)
- Kinnoull Street (outside Alans Pet Shop)
- Scott Street (Outside Craigdon Mountain Sports)
- King James Place (St Leonards in the Fields Church)
The temporary bus stop on Tay Street (opposite the Capital Asset) will made permanent.
